How-To: The Sock Bun

There is something to be said about the classic topknot bun. It’s been around for centuries.

 

 

 

The elegant, sophisticated look is making its way back into the fashion world. Inspired by celebrities such as Lauren Conrad, Reese Witherspoon, and Kate Bosworth, the bun has become the popular and rising trend (as you’ve seen me sporting the look in my videos).

 

At last—you can achieve this chic, sexy, and sophisticated look in just a few short seconds! I call this the Sock Bun look.

What you will need:

 

  • A sock or hair donut
  • Hair Elastic
  • A Brush
  • Bobby pins… to ensure your bun is secure if you’ll be working out like ME!
  • Hairspray (unless you want the ‘messy’ look—which works too)

 

Step 1 Brush hair into a high or low ponytail, depending on the look you want to achieve

Step 2 Place the sock or hair donut over the ponytail

 

 

Step 3 Wrap the ends of your hair underneath and roll the sock towards your head

My Tip: Gently backcomb your hair if you have layers

 

 

Step 4 Spread and tuck hair around the sock or hair donut

 

My Tip: Secure with pins if you’re doing an #FSS workout

Step 5 Finish with hairspray

Holiday Get Hot HIIT Cardio Workout

WOOHOO we are back this holiday season with the 3 week Festive Frenzy of Workouts to get or keep you Fit Strong and Sexy this holiday season so on New Years Eve you’ll be rocking the room and embracing 2014 instead of dreading the post holiday hangover…

Remember, no amount of make-up, sparkly jewelry, or expensive clothing can hide an unhealthy, unfit and un-confident woman.  With FSS we are raising the standard on what it means to be FIT!

 

So mark your calendars, and let's start WEEK ONE!

Holiday HIIT Cardio Workout:

Recommended Equipment:

  • Step/Sturdy Stool or Box
  • OctaSlider  (you can use my discount code: OctaARfit to get 20% off - great gift idea!)
  • Interval Timer (I use Gymboss and highly recommend)

Phase One:

3 Rounds

  • 90 sec – up and down step
  • 60 Seconds – burpee on step
  • 30 seconds – push up position on step with hip lifts using Octaslider

Phase Two:

2 Rounds

  • 90 sec – double foot jump on step (left – up – right)
  • 60 Seconds – up and windmill hands over
  • 30 seconds – plank jump ins and outs (wide leg and out)

Phase Three:

1 Round

  • 90 seconds – jump two feet up and down

HIIT/ Tabata FAST & FIT Workout

I hope you all have a fabulous day, surrounded by the people you love. I am so thankful for all of you, my Fit, Strong and Sexy ladies!

Now before you go and enjoy the day, check out this super quick, super effective workout - in just a few minutes you can get in some killer exercise, without taking much time from the Turkey Day festivities!

Since today marks the start of the "Holiday Season", I'm well aware that 1) we are all prioritizing time with family and friends above everything else (rightly so!) but 2) this means we may let our fitness regimen fall to the wayside, at a time when our bodies may need it most (hello pies and cookies galore)!

Time is the one thing we all seem to have a shortage of - trust me I’m beyond aware of that, hence my mission to prove that you do not need a lot of time to get serious results and an exceptional physique.

Don't be fooled by my short workouts and think they are not going to work. If done right, that is with intensity and focus, they are better than most long workouts for attaining results! In fact, this one is comprised of very difficult exercises that will get your heart pumping and your lungs burning.

The concept is that if the workout were any longer you’d be forced to lower your intensity and take longer breaks. So, if you are pairing it with one of my other workouts, make sure to recover between, let your heart rate come down, re-hydrate and come back strong!

 

Bottom line, if this is your stand alone workout for the day, the effort level should be 10 out 10 on an intensity scale. Break limits and get uncomfortable.

*Beginners: I definitely recommend modifying the moves and going at your own pace. This is something to keep coming back to and working towards.

The Workout:

  • Tabata/HIIT Style!
  • 7 exercises
  • 2 sets of 20 seconds intervals, with 10 second rest in between each interval

The Exercises:

  • Jumping Jacks
  • Plank Jacks
  • Quick Feet
  • Full Body Crunch
  • Lateral Jumpies
  • Barrier Hops
  • Jane Fonda Style Kicks

Total Body Torching & Toning Circuit

Why is it that some people get epic results from their workouts, while other struggle week after week, spending way too many hours, and are still never satisfied with reaching their goals? I have no patience, so if something isn’t working, it’s time to move on and find out what will!

I LOVE 

" target="_blank">this full-body torching & toning circuit. Try to match me with full intensity – or adapt this cut-and-change session to your own capabilities – and build superhero fitness fast!

What You Need:

  • One set of 5-12 pound dumbbells (I use 10 pounds)
  • Bench or Chair

Set One

3 Sets of:

  • Bench Dips  – 20 reps
  • Dumbbell Press-Up
 – 20 reps
  • Bodyweight Squats - 20 reps
  • Dumbell Curl – 15 reps
  • Side Plank – 1 minute each side
  • V-Up Crunches – 20 reps each side
  • Lunges – 10 reps each leg

Set Two

3 Sets of:

  • Push Ups– 3o seconds
  • Burpees – 30 seconds
  • Jumping Jacks – 30 seconds

Everybody TORCH it – Fit, Strong, and Sexy style!
