Top 5 Weekend Activities for After a Break-Up

by Amanda Russell

A lot of things are tough about a break-up, but there is no question we tend to feel it hit home more during our downtime, and for most of us that means weekends. Our ‘off’ time is when we tend to rely on that ‘other person’ to do things with, so when that person is no longer there, we get that pang of loneliness and it’s easy to let the sadness set in.
However, you must keep in mind that you broke up for a reason. If both people aren’t 100% all in, you both deserve more, and it’s best to part ways, and use your down time to keep busy and explore new and exciting things. Below is a list of my top 5 activities to do on weekends when you’re on your own:

1. Exercise: Ok, I know you are seeing a theme here, and yes, I’m a bit biased when it comes to physical fitness, but there is just no better way to make you feel better both inside and out. Working out not only boosts those feel good reactors in your brain, it makes you feel more energized, confident AND helps you to get back into that svelte sexy shape. So hit the gym, and in the process, strike up conversation with someone in the locker room or on the machine next to you. You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to make a new friend at the gym (or perhaps even score a date;).

2. Get Outside: Take a walk or bike ride around town, take in the fresh air, people watch. Sit on a bench with a good book or the newspaper, it’s a great way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, plus fresh air is proven to make you feel better.

3. Find a Good Café: This is unarguably one of the thing s that always makes me feel better! Pick up the daily newspaper and head to your neighborhood coffee spot or try out a new café. Grab a good cup of coffee and browse the paper, smile at the old person next to you, pet the dog tied up outside, and compliment the barrister on her new hair hankerchief. Putting on a good mood even when you’re not totally feeling it can have a surprisingly uplifting impact on your mood.

4. Self-Indulge at the Day Spa: Book a massage appointment for yourself. Get there an hour early, many day spas have a steam and sauna, and take advantage of the extra time. If the spa is out of your budget, opt for a more affordable service such as a manicure OR have at ‘at home spa’ afternoon or evening, just pour yourself a bubble bath, light candles, play good music, do your nails (you ladies) that is. You can buy some great face and hair masks at the local pharmacy for about $2.00, and they leave you feeling completely rejuvenated and refreshed.

5. Enroll in a class of Interest. Is there a hobby you’ve always wanted to try or a language you’ve wanted to learn? Look online for local classes in areas that may interest you. For example, sign up to learn Italian and then plan a trip to Italy to practice your speech!

My list could go on and on, but for sake of keeping this article from being a novel I listed my top 5 favorite things. I’d like to hear some of yours!

Love,

Amanda
